Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie

adventurous challenging mysterious tense medium-paced

4.5

Hard to capture my feelings on this one into something coherent. I love the exploration of personhood and consciousness in Breq/Justice of Toren, and I'm always a fan of multiple timelines coming together to reveal a storyline. I like the challenge of humanity far-flung across galaxies, yet still as petty and prejudiced as ever, trying their best (not) to get squashed by aliens. LOVE the gender stuff (as a corrective to Leguin's Left Hand of Darkness?). But this is a difficult narrative to follow, and there's a lot of maneuvering I'm just not sure I got. So I'll see how that goes in book 2!
