1356 by Bernard Cornwell

5.0

Thomas Hookton is one of Cornwell's flawed heroes. He has been through the mill in this series and things aren't plain sailing in this latest book. The historical detail is really good and the characters are well fleshed out. The 100 years war era was a grim period an it really comes to life in this book. We may know the bare facts from history lessons in school but this brings medieval warfare vividly to life.
