knowing how compelling Holly Black can make her characters this was just so... bland? Charlie is uninteresting and i couldn't bring myself to care that much about her. there are too many side characters and it takes away from the few interesting relationships in this book.

the magic system and world-building were cool but lacked depth. we know what Charlie does, which is really not much. sometimes, the mystery works but in a book with so little happening, i don't think it was the right move.
