I had high expectations going into this book and I was disappointed. I didn't dislike it but I found myself bored often because a lot of the book was predictable and I did not think the author brought anything original to this except have a fig tree as a character. So, of course, that is what I liked the most about the book and prevented it from being a 2-star read. I don't know if I had read it instead of listening, I would have liked it more. In my opinion, the narration was uneven. For the heavy themes that were covered in this novel, I should have been more engaged but I was not attached to any of the human characters, except maybe Miriam.
