The Astronaut and the Star by Jen Comfort

Regina “Reggie” Hayes is an overachieving, incredibly successful, and socially awkward astronaut. All she has ever wanted is to be the first woman to set foot on the moon, and so she has only prioritised work for her entire life. Her upbringing and familial situation hasn’t helped because, despite her success, her parents are still constantly disappointed in her.
When Reggie discovers that she hasn’t been shortlisted for the moon mission, and learns that the main reason is her singular attitude, she decides to fight for it. And to prove to NASA that she can be a team player, and be the kind of person her colleagues would love to spend weeks with in space? Well she volunteers to train an actor, Jon Leo, in all things astronaut for his upcoming movie.
Gaahh these two! Reggie was so frustrating at times. Definitely her own worst enemy and just couldn’t seem to stop herself from acting like a raging cow half the time, or relinquish control to become the team player she needed to be. But Jon slowly showed her that it was ok to trust people. And that it was ok to need help. To even ask for it.
And Jon…oh Jon. He was just adorable. Like a giant, scorchingly hot, man-puppy. Ok that’s kind of a gross analogy. But you get what I mean. He was funny, and sweet, and self-deprecating, and willingly gave his heart to Regina all whilst knowing she was probably going to destroy it.
I’m kind of hoping Katya will get a book because she was so hilariously dry. I loved her.
I believe this is Comfort’s debut novel, and I have to say her writing is awesome - educational, funny, and somehow both light and heavy at the same time. I’m looking forward to seeing what else she comes up with.
