This book was fantastic. Sanderson is an amazing worldbuilder, and his magic system in this book was well fleshed-out. I especially enjoy the character arc of Vin. She grew up in a terrible situation and was even explicitly trained by her brother to not trust anyone, even him. Throughout the book you see her grow more confident and self-assured, as she interacts with people who treat her well and as she starts to develop a crush. Spoilers on her personal arc in the epilogue:
I really liked how in the end, she realizes that fewer people had abandoned her, at least intentionally, than she thought. This knowledge helps her make the decision to pursue a romantic relationship with someone who seems to really care about her, which was nice to see. The one gripe I have with this is it feels a bit like she couldn’t be fulfilled without a romantic partner, which is not my favorite trope.
