The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux

5.0

A bit different from Andrew Lloyd Webber's version, which is my absolute favorite muscial. In fact, I'd say the book was quite a bit more action-packed than the musical. To simultaneously hate and pity a character is wretched. Poor Eric, aka the Phantom, a genius who would have been revered had he not been born with such a gruesome countenance. Christine, the deluded child who grew up too late to realize she'd been duped. And the Viscount Raoul, a sentimental chap who lets love blind reality until it's nearly too late. A marvelously, well-written, fascinating, adventurous, and frightening exploration behind the story of the "Opera Ghost" at the Paris Opera House.
