Mistletoe and Mr. Right by Sarah Morgenthaler

2.0

A whole bunch of meh. I finished this yesterday and I'm already forgetting most of it.

Lana is not a very interesting (or fleshed out at all to be made relatable) protag. She's super rich. She's basically planning to gentrify this town and feels really sad that the people there don't want this to happen. But it's supposed to be okay because she's flexible on the rent payments and tries to catch a moose? I wasn't buying it.

Also the cousin who is trying to gaslight her is sooo annoying - not a clever protagonist, just a bore of a plot thread. Really the whole rich family is so over the top cliche, like a character is literally in the hospital dying, but they all want to attend a Christmas party to maintain their image? Bleh

I can't really tell you anything about Rick. His nephew is much more interesting, a troubled boy who lost his entire family when he was young and tends to lash out. Rick is just...a guy, who kind of likes Lana and owns a pool hall which he doesn't want to lose. At one point he gets hit with a tranq dart and it wasn't even really funny.

There were cute moments. The moose-hunting was ridiculous, but fun. Their first date sequence where they get snowed in at a shady B&B filled with taxidermy squirrels was actually very amusing, and definitely the highlight of the book. And the intriguing but greatly underused nephew. There's not NOTHING in this book, but I definitely barely remember it already.
