Hiero's Journey by Sterling E. Lanier

5.0

This was one of my favorite childhood books (I think I was 14 or 15 when I read it), and it remains a nostalgic favorite. I started to reread it a few years ago and almost gave up after the first chapter. As is often the case, the eye with which we read books in our teens reads a different story than when we are older. I've since decided not to revisit any more old favorites. It's a great story, but the prose was not as refined and elegant as I remembered. What can I say? It seemed great writing when I was a kid.

Still, a fun and interesting story it is, and Heiro's Journey was definitely worth reading the first time.
