The Throne of Lies by Candice Wright
5.0
“You do have to make a choice eventually. You’re standing in the wreckage, hoping for a different outcome, but you can’t go back. Only forward. You have to choose if you want to play in the ruins or rebuild the foundations so that they are stronger than before.”
One of my top reasons for loving the Underestimated series by @authorcandicewright is the fact that it’s filled with strong and empowering women. Their stories are incredibly brutal and raw, but it’s beautiful to see them become stronger because of their experiences and powering through life.
This is one of those quotes out of the many that spoke to me from THE THRONE OF LIES. I cannot even begin to express how much Saylor’s story meant to me. And another quote that has left me contemplating a lot is:
What happened to me might have shaped me. It might have taken the smooth edges of adolescence and ripped them ragged, but a single chapter does not define my story. What shaped my history doesn’t control my future unless I give my demons the power to do so. I’m done living half a life and worrying about what-ifs.
This book made it into my top faves of the year. While it’s not perfect, especially with the insta-love/insta-lust (it’s an MC world after all), the story as a whole and the characters will forever stick with me; I’m in love with every single one of them. Their stories continue to give me hope and help me to channel their badass and strong energy when I don’t feel strong enough. I’ll forever be grateful to Candice for writing this series. ❤️
