Trunk Music by Michael Connelly

5.0

*This review is more focused on the series as a whole, rather than specifics of Trunk Music.*

In general I prefer crime dramas set in UK or Scandinavia as they provide a richer world to get lost in. However, Micheal Connelly’s Harry Bosch Universe is one of the only ‘American’ series to give me the same level of escapism that I crave.

After watching the series adaptation produced by Amazon Studios starring Titus Welliver, I was inspired to read the series. 6 books later I am still as engaged as ever.

A fair number of changes were made to the world of Harry Bosch in making the shift from page to screen and honestly both has been highly enjoyable.

The books provide a deeper look at Harry Bosch’s history, values and psychology. This makes The plot twists, false leads and Harry’s outrageous decisions not only authentic but satisfying.

I highly recommend the series especially for someone who has recently moved to Los Angeles. The city is her own character, this beautiful messy place where there is a thin line between dreams and nightmares.
