Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian

5.0

Going back to review this after finishing the Hornblower series. Got into this because Keith Richards mentioned it in his autobiography as a good read. He also mentioned the George MacDonald series which I had read and enjoyed so I gave this a try.
Very enjoyable with a lot of details that stick in one's mind - the intricacies of getting refit for instance.
Very well written and researched books. I found later in the series that having Stephen Biesty's Cross-Sections: Man-Of-War to be an invaluable resource for understanding the terms and layout of the ship. Also the recently finished Patrick O'Brian Mapping Project on Cannonade.net is really helpful for those weaker in geography (especially Mediterranean!).
