The Dark King by Gina L. Maxwell

3.0

Honestly, this one is probably closer to a 3.5, but I rounded down because so much of it is a version of miscommunication (closer to just non-communication or avoidance), which is one of my least favorite tropes. However, I did love the contemporary fae storyline, the world built within Las Vegas for the fae kingdom, and what looks to be a continuing storyline about the “evil fae’s thirst for power.” And there are hints of some great side characters between the Night Watch and the other Verran brothers.

But… Caiden spends so much time avoiding Bryn in an attempt to solve a problem that she is actively affected by. Not smart, dude. At least there is a decent attempt at a grovel pretty much at the very end, but he is forgiven a little too quickly.

Overall, we have fae, curses, kingdoms, fated mates, family obligations, a lil’ kink… all set among the backdrop of Vegas and the desert. So, it’s fun and flirty and worth a read.
