This book was…not what I expected to get into. I went in blind as I do with so many books and it was so good! I enjoyed the character development and the different perspectives throughout the book keep you guessing. If you are looking for a book to convince someone to *NOT* adopt or foster kids, this is the book for you. There are a lot of content warnings with this one, a few that I did not expect. I actually had to put this book down several times while reading because it got too graphic for me( which says a lot!!). I would read anything Lucinda berry writes as she perfectly captures psychological trauma in all of her books.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Child abuse, Death, Panic attacks/disorders, Physical abuse, Excrement, Vomit, Medical content, Death of parent, Murder, Pregnancy, Gaslighting, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Infertility and Miscarriage
