The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

I think every woman should read this! This has become one of my favorite books for so many reasons. It explores topics such as what it means to be a woman, a wife, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, etc. This story is what it would look like to give a voice to the women within a male-dominated society where their stories may never be told nor understood otherwise. It emphasizes the roles that women play in being “the keeper of stories and memories” and how the midwives who serve them at their most vulnerable are the ones to heal and uphold these sacred traditions.
As a mother, doula, and midwife myself, it is deeply moving. I feel like this is one of those books that causes you to takeaway something different with each re-read. Is it biblically accurate? No, but that’s the point of Historical Fiction.
Can’t wait to give it to my daughters when they’re older!
