So I am actually enjoying this more than the typical "YA" fantasy however having read Annette Marie's Guild Codex series these books both suffer and gain from the comparison. They gain because I know she is a good writer so I'm more forgiving, I guess. I think I like it more having already greatly liked one of her series. The suffer is just that the other series is better - of course I can see where she has grown as a writer.

So I found the action a bit over the top, the bad guy also overpowered. Still the world building is interesting - I like that Piper is not overpowered but worked hard for her physical prowess, she also makes (mostly) rational decisions.

Overall it is good, I'm definitely going to finish the series (and the next one).
