This was an angsty read with our heroine, Quinn, dreaming of our hero Nick, even though she is engaged to someone else. The premise was really interesting with this promise of angst, drama and perhaps a supernatural element which hooked me in.
Overall, I did have fun reading. I thought it was a little overlong for the amount of plot and development we got. There was a little too much angsting and not enough explanation for what was happening. This book ended too abruptly and only after I finished it did I realize this was not a standalone and can’t be read as much. However, book 1 really didn’t function as a book - more as a first part of a truncated novel. This annoys me - even in a series books need to have narrative structure and some sort of arc.
I will be continuing into the next book because I want to know what happens. Maybe if both work well together I will bump up the rating because right now - just a month later (as of writing the review) - my overall memory of the book is annoyance more than swoony feeling about the couple.
However, since I generally remember liking them and being invested in them getting together (before the last couple of chapters went all crazy and gave me a headache), I am giving this 3 solid stars with a hope for something better in book 2.
