The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Character Expression by Angela Ackerman

informative reflective medium-paced

5.0

Emotions usually don’t jump from mild to extreme in a short period of time. To gain the reader’s trust, lay the proper foundation and show how stressors lead to a greater intensity.

Easily 5 stars for the informative physical and mental cues to display overt and covert emotions in writing. The writing tips in the beginning and at the end of every chapter are helpful too.

Most of all, I felt constantly called out by emotion suppression cues. Turns out I naturally suppress a lot of my reactions. Who would've known? (Me.)
