ok, I have been
meaning

write a
rant
about this
book for a few days
now.

my main issue with poetry collections I read is that there seems to be no cohesive overarching theme or idea. yes, poetry can revolve around many ideas such as grief, trauma, family, history etc. but there needs to be a general string that pulls it all together. I really enjoyed the first part of this collection and what it delved into and then there was a random shamble of poems loosely shoved here and there to make up some pages. now, if the poetry had been good I would not have minded but it was imo trashier than Elizabeth Hurleys 1999 metgala outfit. one of the poems was legitimately
I am made of water
of course I am emotional
for starters the overused imagery linking water to exclusively sadness is well.... overused and secondly just bad
now, I can absolutely see the value in this collection for certain readers but I feel like there are so many other texts that capture issues related to gender, relationships, trauma etc so much better. overall, I did not enjoy this
