None Of This Is Serious by Catherine Prasifka
emotional
reflective
medium-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? Character
- Strong character development? No
- Loveable characters? No
- Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes
2.5
Notes:
- Really don't know what to make of this one; it seemed like a portrayal of the way our generation lives their lives in response to an uncertain world but without much insight and a very unpleasant main narrative voice.
- I appreciate that some characters aren't meant to be likeable but this protagonist and her toxic relationships (of all kinds!) just felt immature, like they were late teens instead of 22.
- Not a huge fan of the "crack in the sky" plot idk it felt too much like it was meant to mirror the covid pandemic but I don't feel like it added much to the exploration of character stories.
- Rating not reflective of overall quality of book (~3.0-3.5?) but just my own feelings towards it: not the book for me. Really didn't like reading this voice and a few names/plot points hit a little too close to my personal history whoops—
