Doctor Who: The Land of the Dead by Stephen Cole

2.0

5th Doctor, Nyssa - This is a real shame. So much about this story SOUNDS like a good idea. A seemingly refreshed Peter Davison back in the role again with his favorite companion, Nyssa. An ominous, barely seen, Lovecraftian-like threat in a "The Thing"-like atmosphere. A steady rising danger. A broad moral theme... This all sounds like the best of Doctor Who to me. It just doesn't work, though. A story like this should be this long to develop the creeping menace of it all, but that also implies, you know, some narrative to fill in that menace-building length. Sadly, by the time it all erupts, you've probably stopped caring. But don't count him out, the 5th Doctor has some real triumphs coming.
