Rashōmon and Seventeen Other Stories by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa
4.5
Oh fuck. I have a lot of things to say about this collection so I'll try to keep this short.
The actual stories were amazing from the writing style to (although depressing) the meaning behind them. The translation was amazing. I've never been a huge fan of short stories, but this stole my heart.
The thing that truly elevated the stories for me at least was the fact that we as the reader also got to learn about the life of Akutagawa. Knowing his life story (or at least a part of it) brought a whole other level of meaning and importance to the stories.
