I wanted to like this a lot more than I did. It read like a creative writing exercise in a college class. It had queer representation, but it was ham-fisted and clumsy. In this type of satire, humor and wit are necessary, but there wasn’t any. It felt like this author read Horrorstor and listened to the SCP podcast about the transdimensional IKEA and decided to make their own version of it.

Criticisms aside, the book was well written in places and the protagonist was sympathetic and relatable enough to carry the story. Everyone else was just fairly hollow.

Will probably read the second one in the series.
