Sometime in Summer by Katrina Leno

5.0

There are books and then there are *stories* and this right here is a *story*.

Everything about this book feels completely realised and executed to perfection. Like, Katrina Leno knew exactly what she wanted to do to create this book and wasted nothing to achieve that. Everything in this book feels purposeful, right down to the slow, meandering pace. It just heightened the setting and atmosphere of this sleepy seaside town being the back drop for this incredible emotional journey that Anna goes through. Reading this book felt like it was always meant to exist and Leno just dug into the ground until she could pull it up, like Michelangelo chipping away at the marble until David was free. I don't know how else to explain it! It's just perfect. An instant fav and one I can see myself re-reading in the future.
