Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid

2.0

I keep going back and forth between liking and not liking this book, especially since I have loved everything else from this author. I love the concept of this book. I love the two viewpoints. I also found the characters relatable. However, the blatant fat phobia in this book just brings me right out of this. Stop reading here if you do not want spoilers....

This woman gets pregnant and can't stop mentioning how fat she is, like her being fat is the worst thing that has ever happened to her in her life. I repeat - she is pregnant! Your body is supposed to change when you are literally creating life! Also, fat is NOT a feeling. You can feel sad, angry, mad...as I am in this review...but fat is a characteristic, like the main character is thin and has brown hair - mere traits/characteristics. Please we must do better in writing our characters. We have to stop the stigmatization and marginalization of human beings.
