The Body Never Lies: The Lingering Effects of Hurtful Parenting by Alice Miller

4.0

This is an interesting read if you were subjected to a cruel parent. I certainly was, and while the claims in this book may or may not be true, there is no doubt that cruel parenting does have consequences. It is not a very happy conclusion, but how can it be otherwise.

I think there are better discussions of CPTSD, and the understanding of childhood trauma has definitely improved since this was written, but this is still an important starting point with some interesting conclusions. I really enjoyed reading about the complex outcomes for some admired writers, especially Dostoevsky, Virgina Woolf and Yukio Mishima. 7/10
