'The sky is everywhere, it begins at your feet' is a line that stuck with 14-year-old me and still makes me (embarrassingly) a little teary to this day. The stylistic rendering of Lennie's poems is the icing on the cake of what is the perfect teenage romance novel. It has everything classic of the genre (it's a little cliche, but Nelson has such a charming style I loved it anyway): beautiful, insecure lead, grief, crazy family (I want to live with Gram and Uncle Big), and a beautiful, interesting, foreign boy who steals everyone's hearts... Seriously. To this day, I still want Joe Fontaine to become real so I can marry him...
