Book 5 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood is V and Jane mostly. V is at a crossroads in his life. He’s just found out who his mother is, after 3 centuries and is not happy. He is also selected to be the new Primale, the father of all vampires to continue the strong bloodlines of the Chosen and the Warriors. But he doesn’t want it. While trying to figure things out, he encounters some Lessers and ends up getting shot. He is rushed to the hospital, by humans, of course, where he ends up meeting Dr. Jane Whitcomb.

Throughout the book, we see V work through some things and Jane gets wrapped up in it all. Phury is also struggling with the fact Z is mated to Bella. John Michael is coping with being a pretrans and we see him transition to a full vampire in this book.

Phury offers a solution to V so V can be with Jane and the Primale role be filled. Phury is willing to take V’s place as Primale, with a strong bloodline of his own, it is granted.

This book has a twist at the end and we are introduced into a mate being a ghost and I find it weird.... and i’ve read some weird things in my life.

There is a good kink scene in this book with wax play and bondage. It’s only one scene and not insanely graphic as some books can be. It’s more trauma healing type play than anything.

I still enjoy how Ward has many storylines going on at once in any of her books. It helps to transition from book to book because you’re following 3 storylines usually and one will start in a book as a side story but then become the main story in the next book or two books later.
