I absolutely loved Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros! It's important to note that while it's marketed as an adult novel, the writing style  of simplistic and straightforward leans more towards young adult fiction, with the exception of the sexual content and graphic death. The plot is somewhat predictable, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. The dragons, magic, and characters were all so wonderful and made the book a solid 5-star read for me. The connection between dragons and magic was fascinating the way power is manifested! But also that hierarchy of power. The school and trials trope is one of my favorites and this was done so well because it was not too quick, but it was also logical and very detailed. The romance between the FMC and MMC was predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless and I love an enemies to lovers trope. The relationships between characters and the themes of found family were beautiful!

I do think villains were not as fleshed out as I would have liked, but I have a feeling that they will be explored more in the next book. We have some leaders that are highlighted but we never go into any detail on any of them. The ending cliffhanger was exciting, but not entirely surprising for me only because there were so many instances where the author highlighted a moment which is usually only done to highlight the significance or importance of a character.

Overall, I cannot wait to pre-order book 2 and see where Rebecca takes the rest of the story,
