The Dying Day by Vaseem Khan

4.0

I love the stories Vaseem Khan tells. I love that he weaves fact into fiction and tells me things I never knew like that there was a copy of The Divine Comedy in Bombay. Fascinating. Try fascinating. I love the complicated stories he weaves and thus one involves Italian fascists, Nazis, collaborators and sympathisers. It was classic Khan.

What I do not like is Persis Wadia. Yes I get that she is a lone woman struggling in a man's world but she doesn't half let us know. I know that Mr Khan is trying to get us to see how much prejudice she has to struggle with every day but does she have to be so unlikeable? That's why I only gave it 4 stars.

She says she became a police officer for selfish reasons. Well then stop bleating about women's rights. She obviously cares less than the men do. I feel sorry for the men who work with her because she's more judgemental and prejudiced than any of them. Okay, rant over.
Bring back the elephant. He just made me happy.
