The Boy in the Dress by David Walliams

4.0

I read this knowing it was a children’s book. It was a quick read, and I picked it up after seeing it at the bookstore and had to sate my curiosity with it.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well the subject matter was handled. Considering this book was published in 2008, I can appreciate how it brings up gender neutrality with clothing. It really all came down to “who cares what we wear” and “people can wear whatever they want”

Despite the blatant hetero-washing of the characters, and queer potential of the story. I feel like it’s exactly what was needed for the time period it was published.

Would recommend for anyone at any age! It’s cute and real.
