I did not enjoy this book as much as I've enjoyed others by this author or other WWII fiction.  I was interested in the Italian location as I don't know much about Italy's role in the war, and how they effectively changed sides half way through.

The characters felt a little flat and I never really engaged with them as much as I might have liked
