A Fall from Grace by Jennie Goutet

4.0

A charming Regency that reminded me of the Georgette Heyer books I binge-read in high school! The story revolves around the plight of impoverished Selena, once an eligible member of the ton, who must now make a living as companion to a crotchety spinster. Many characters around her are shallow & unfeeling in their privilege--as she used to be. Among these, Selena's compassion & strength of character shine--even enough to call out to the better nature of a handsome, saught-after bachelor & draw him out of his isolation. The story ends with a happy new beginning for Selena & hints of what is to come in the remaining books in the trilogy. I thoroughly enjoyed buddy-reading this story with an Instagram bookclub from new-to-me writer, Jennie Goutet.
