Very rarely do I read middle grade novels these days, but Amari and the Night Brothers was definitely one I wanted to try - and I'm so glad I did!

This book was so much fun, kind of like Men in Black of the fantasy realm. I really love the world Alston created, and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. I think the plot fitted nicely within the parameters of this world, and while I did think the pacing could've been a little more even, I had an overall great time with the story.

And then there's Amari, who is just completely realistic, loveable, and so easy to root for. She's a friend I would've loved to have at that age, and I thought the way she interacted with her environments was very well done. Her decisions made perfect sense for the most part, and she was a great pillar to hang the story on.

All in all just a very good time, and I'll definitely pick up the sequel when it comes out!
