Avatar: The Last Airbender - Team Avatar Tales by Kiku Hughes, Sara Goetter, Dave Scheidt, Ron Koertge, Gene Luen Yang

4.0

What's always impressed me about the Avatar world is how universally engaging it's felt, brimming with joy, curiosity, and weighted thoughtfulness for all ages, youths and olds alike. This one, however, was specifically for kids — younger ones than even the show aimed for. It's like a halfed version of the narrative, which is admittedly odd, given that the show took such pride in addressing kids like complex beings. So I recognize I'm not the target audience here. It's just the first piece of Avatar media that I wasn't totally thrilled and delighted by. It's a three-star read with an extra star because I know it'd still be fun for kiddos.
