Água viva by Clarice Lispector

challenging mysterious reflective slow-paced

4.0

Like hurtling through time and space and here and now with your eyelids peeled back by centripetal force and given sweet relief of a sentence to catch your breath and remind you of the times of stillness before the force takes you away again and it’s all you can do to grasp onto those little moments of pause to let out the briefest exhale and see the world anew.

This was my first Lispector. She had me shuddering and floating. Her prose made me groan and gasp.

It’s a physical experience, it’s tangible, it’s spell craft, she’s looking at you and she’s alive. Here and now. In this instant.

I can smell her perfume.
