I hadn’t read this series in years and I found myself wanting to revisit the series.
I forgot how much I enjoyed Cinder. Yes, it’s a Cinderella retelling, but more importantly, this story takes place in a future Beijing. A world that we could see happening, especially with callbacks to our world.
There’s an evil stepmother, but more so she is a woman confused by her husband’s choices mixed with grief who takes out all her emotions on Cinder, though that doesn’t excuse her choices. There is an overarching villain who feels extremely evil, which I love.
This beautiful book is a perfect mix of sci-fi and fractured fairy tale.
