I had watched the film so I knew what to expect, but wow! I can only imagine the experience for someone who hadn't seen the film. So crazy!

The pace really ramps up in the third quarter of the book. I loved how this book wasn't too long. I feel like Lehane could have easily pulled a "Stephen King" by making this book an epic slog. Thank you for making it short! It might have been nice to hear a little more about Teddy's relationships with his father and even Dolores during their early years. But overall, a standout book!

If I had to choose, I think the film is better. (I'm sorry). But Scorsese had some great source material. I'm so glad he made a film adaptation of this book!
