The One by Kiera Cass

3.0

I feel like The One suffers from "third book syndrome". I know there are a few novellas and two more sequels, but I feel like Cass intended to stop here, but was pushed on word/chapter/content count; everything felt like it really happened in the last 50 pages or so, ala Mockingjay or Allegiant. And it's not that things feel unresolved, I don't mind not seeing after Maxon and America's wedding; leaving it open allows the reader to believe whatever they want about Maxon's plans for Illéa going forward.
I'm glad that Clarkson is dead. But why did she need to kill Amberly as well? Is Anne the maid dead or run away or what? Will Kota end up in a hole where he belongs? Why give Celeste a redemption arc to just kill her off? Where are August and Georgia?

Anyway. I enjoyed the ending well enough. I don't know if I'll buy and read The Heir and The Crown but who knows.
