Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? No

4.0

One thing that I am learning about Maas is that she writes almost a ridiculous amount of characters for her stories. I was lost several times throughout the book trying to keep track of who was who. It got to the point that I just focused on remembering the stories of the main characters and essentially left the others behind. We learn more about Celaena’s backstory
Aelin as she is now known
and are introduced to several new characters
Rowan, Maeve, Sorcha etc
.
We also learn more about the evil king’s plot and where his power comes from. Aelin is now in the land of the Fae and she has left Chaol and Dorian behind with the evil king.
Manon the Black Beak witch is introduced to us in this book and I immediately love her. Her grandmother tells her several times that she was born without a heart but I believe we’ll see some “heart” from her eventually. Overall the writing in this book was good and the descriptions of Aelin’s magic (especially at the end of the book) were amazing and kept me hooked while I read.
