 i was dissapointed with this one. i wanted to like it and that was my first mistake. i think the author tried to do a lot of sellable tropes at once and failed. the world-building and the magic system couldn't keep my interest. the characters were bland and i didn't care for any of them. the only interesting character was the nightmare— and it reminded me of vespertine's revenant (who i love more). maybe, it had to do with the timing bc i was sick when i started this. it was written fine and i see why other people might find some charm in it but it wasn't for me.
