I wanted to like Imani more than I did. I found her internal dialogue and dislike of Taha grating since it’s mentioned so often by her how much she doesn’t like him. They have their “moments” here-and-there and they’re a little bit of a reprieve, but because Taha is so distant/cold/rude with her, it doesn’t do much to stop Imani’s internal dialogue about him. I also found, in general, she wasn’t very likable. She was a little too much “I’m going to do this my way”. With that said, she got a little bitter by the end, but the end also took a turn so it was buck up or get out at that point.
Taha you really wanted to like in an enemies-to-lovers way, but it never quite pans out.
I liked Qayn who ended up having an interesting story and interesting hand in the whole search for her brother. I actually found him the most interesting of everyone.
I am interested in reading the next book, but felt this book was a little slow and wish the characters were a little more likable.
