This book is filled with a sense of community and companionship—yes, in between the characters but also from the author and what she wanted to pass on to the readers and even herself.

"Some would say this is how you build a community. Some would say, maybe you forget the past. Maybe you forget their ignorance. I can’t believe that. If we forget, they stay ignorant. Calling us Indians. Or worse, all those slurs they love to throw around. All the violence, the stuff that’s seen, the stuff that’s still to be uncovered."
