Embers, by Sándor Márai

5.0

I unapologetically loved this novella which is so reminiscent of decay, a desire for revenge, and a longing for what was.
If you don’t have patience for monologues or want a fast-paced or clear plot, it’s not for you.
If you love beautiful writing, a sense of fatalism, meandering thoughts, or reading about the dregs of empire, you will enjoy this.
