Sadie by Courtney Summers

I am so happy I read this book! It has pulled me out of a reading slump :) Plus it is totally worth the hype.

This book follows a girl named Sadie who is on a mission to find the killer who murdered her sister Mattie. Sadie's life was already difficult before the murder of her sister. She had to grow up on her own and take care of her sister Mattie in a small town named Cold Creek. She only had her grandmother May Beth. After the death of her little sister, Sadie changed drastically. She couldn't carry on with her life. She needed to find her sister's killer so she sets off on her own, leaving without telling her grandma May Beth. Which means there is one dead girl and one missing girl. Subsequently, the story of Sadie's life has been spreading around the town at a rapid pace. A radio host who is visiting towns for a segment on his radio show hears Sadie's story and finds himself really interested in finding the missing girl. In order to help find Sadie, he starts his own podcast where he follows the clues Sadie leaves behind.

This book was powerful. All the characters were intertwined with each other. It really brought out the fear and the sadness of losing a sister and how it feels to not be loved by the ones that should love you. I loved how the book was split between the podcast script and narrative. It was really captivating and enjoyable to read. I was hesitant at first to read this because I was worried the abuse would be sensationalized in the book but it wasn't. The abuse was present but the details were non-existent. The book focuses more on how abuse impacts individuals rather than the abuse itself. However, there are some content warnings for this book: pedophilia, sexual abuse, drug abuse, murder

I have seen a lot of reviews mentioning how the audiobook really brought the story to life. I am going to have to try that out myself. All in all, this book was amazing. I really recommend it especially if you are in a reading slump.
