Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson

5.0

OK, OK I know the cover art is old lady books but hear me out. The book is really good! They have new covers now which is very nice. This book had a lot of information and it laid down the foundation for the future series. A lot of information, a lot of politics, and a lot of traditions, culture, and a little bit of the world and a little bit of the magic. Not a lot has happened as adventure wise, but again this book is setting up characters, setting up the story and setting up the foundation for the rest of the series and I can’t wait! I would’ve given this a four star, cuz not a whole lot of adventure happened as in going out into the world (because we stayed in the MFC’s house a whole lot) but the fact that I couldn’t stop thinking of this book when I had to put it down and how excited I am for the future books, it made it a five star.🤞🏻 you quickly fall in love with the characters and the found family feel that I know is coming and a lot that is there.

We start off with a wood carvers Daughter Elly, and she takes her little sisters to the Fay procession on their way to the castle. Of course the fay King, Rain feels his mate and descends onto the people and onto her. This beautiful, dark fat male, who is ruthless and vicious has finally found his fainted mate. Now that he has found her they have to navigate through the legal court system because this nasty greasy fat rat of a butchers son has tried to stick his claim on the Elly so the Fay King must petition to the king and queen of the human realm, staking his permanent claim on her as his mate. I have a sneaky suspicion that greasy little toad (the Butcher son) it’s gonna come back and there’s going to be some problems. He’s going to be a real thorn in the side in the future. I just know it!

Now, of course, a big traditional human wedding has to be planned and done through the temple and so that the wedding is sanctioned properly so that doesn’t bring shame upon her family. Lots of wedding planning and wedding preparations in only 3 weeks time.

Now that Elly is the future queen of the Fay, there is lots of people that wish her harm to hurt the Rain the fay King. He has her guarded 24 seven and tries to explain to her family that they all need to be guarded and protected as well. Of course, a mishap happen and it shows everyone that he was not joking, and that a threat to her/their lives is a real thing and problem!

There is a dark evil presence that lurks around at night and in dreams and is trying to find Elly and has been her whole life. Why? We don’t know yet! This evil darkness has a lot of evil roots spread across the human lands and nation and is working his way through, even to the king and queen. Like poison through veins. Oh, this is not Bodwell for anything in the future! He’s trying to turn the humans against the Fay. Oh my goodness, it’s going to be an all out war I just know it! Elly has had nightmares her whole life and she finally is found by this dark presence in her dreams and when he does, it feels like you’re in a Luke Skywalker fever dream when he’s on Dagobah and sees himself as Darth Vader “the bad guy” as this happens to Elly when she sees herself as the bad guy. What can that possibly mean? Oh the possibilities!

I cannot wait until to start the next book!
