The Christmas Escape by Sarah Morgan
4.0
I was introduced to Sarah Morgan's books at the time through the book ‘Sleepless in Manhattan’, the first part of the series 'From Manhattan with love'. Very nice books with not too much depth, with those books you could still notice that she wrote bouquet series booklets for years, at least that’s my thoughts. Nowadays she writes two books a year, a Christmas book and a summer book, and I must say that these books have much more depth, of course there is also a spontaneous and sensual love affair but it is of secondary importance to the story.
This story is about two young women who have been friends for years and the aunt of one of the two. The often fairly long chapters are written alternately from the perspective of the three different people. Christy, who always wants to do everything perfectly, has a marital crisis that she wants to solve at any cost. She therefore sends her friend Alix with her young daughter Holly to her aunt in Lapland for them to join later. Her husband Seb thinks it's a big responsibility for Alix and asks his friend Zac to come along. Alix does not really like this when she hears about it, Zac on the other hand…
Arriving in Lapland it turns out that they have to sleep together in the chalet where Christy & Seb will be staying. Fortunately there is a couch because Alix does not want to know anything from Zac, you slowly hear why she does not want to know anything from Zac. You will also find out about the history of Christy and why Christy is such a perfectionist, and how the relationship with the aunt, Robyn, is. Robyn is the sister of Christy's deceased mother. There is a lot of drama in their history but well, there is sometimes in reality too. Every now and then I was only a little annoyed by Christy who wanted to do and arrange everything perfectly, that's not always possible. The arctic environment was pleasantly described and for that reason alone it is a perfect Christmas read.
