The Overdue Life of Amy Byler by Kelly Harms

3.0

3 1/2 stars. I wanted a light and fun read after a few heavier books and with all of the coronavirus drama going on, and this perfectly fit the bill. Amy Byler is a single mom trying to juggle her job, her kids, and the bills. When her ex shows up after being gone to Hong Kong for three years wanting to spend more time with the kids, at first she’s indignant and says no, but then goes in, knowing her kids should repair their relationship with their dad if possible. She heads to New York for a library conference and to meet up with an old college roommate for some R&R, and ends up extending her trip. Along the way, she learns a lot about herself, her ex, and her kids. Good insight into how middle-aged moms can feel about themselves and who they are to the people depending on them and how it impacts their identity. It’s a funny book too - I laughed out loud several times.
