Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison

4.0

When I first starting reading this book I had downloaded a free sample of it on my Nook. I was looking for a book to get my niece for Christmas and her and I tend to have the same taste in books. I was laughing so hard at the free sample my husband suggested that I might wait to read it at a time when he wasn’t trying to sleep. Probably a good idea, but I couldn’t put it down so I bit my tongue to keep from laughing out loud. Yes, the first part of the book is laugh out loud funny.

This book has three lead characters that start out the Book, but the lead character is Rachel Morgan a witch. She is a white witch and is a “runner” for the I.S. (I don’t remember what it stands for). She isn’t very successful at it, as a matter of fact she is pretty bad. She has a pixie named Jenks as a back up because no one else will back her up. It seems Rachel is a danger to others as well as herself. The other lead character you meet in the bar where Rachel goes to pick up her criminal. It is her former partner Ivy a non-practicing vampire, who is also there to pick up a criminal.

Fast forward to the three of them leaving their jobs with I.S. you are going to read those circumstances. They all leave together. And that is where our adventure begins. I have been torn with thinking Rachel is a total idiot to just thinking I don’t understand her. She is willy-nilly and plans nothing out and flies by the seat of her pants. Probably a good thing really. After all hers is not always a fun job.

I love these characters, each for their own attributes and failings. I love Rachel because although she is a witch, not to be confused with a human, and she is all too human. Ivy because she is trying really hard to not follow her instincts as a vampire. And Jenks because he is Jenks. He is irrepressible and is a lot of fun. And then there are the secondary characters, namely Jenks family. They are the security guards as you were, they are the only reason that Rachel isn’t taken out by fairies assassins. Hmm they must be related to Tinkerbell before they changed her.

Bottom line? I loved it, will read the next book in the series. I already downloaded it on my Nook. Should you read it? YES!!!

I wish that there was a four and a half stars!!
