I almost didn’t read this book because I thought Neon Gods, the first book in this series, was just okay. I’m so so SO glad I gave this author and series another chance because I really loved Electric Idol! I don’t think you have to read the previous book in order to understand Electric Idol. The main characters and other side characters from book one do make appearances and it does take place in the same setting, but I think the reminders of previous events scattered throughout this book make it possible to be read as a standalone. ⠀

I loved both Eros and Psyche equally. They were excellent characters and I loved each of their POVs. Eros was the ultimate hot morally grey character. I loved his character arc and I loved how much he practically worshipped the ground Psyche walked on. I loved everything about Psyche. She was a confident, compassionate, clever badass. I really loved reading about a curvy plus size heroine and I loved how comfortable she was in her own skin. Together they had excellent chemistry and banter.⠀

This 👏 is 👏 how 👏 you 👏 write 👏 instalove. I typically don’t like instalove storylines, but it was done so well in this book. I loved the “I have to kill you, so let’s get married” trope aka the marriage of convenience trope. I also loved the smutty smut smut. It was spicy hot. Eros was a very generous lover. ⠀

Similar to the first book, I thought the external conflict was built up quite a bit and then ended up being resolved too quickly and easily. If there had been a little more danger and a little more epic heroism this book would have been a 5 star read for me. Nevertheless, I loved Electric Idol. I could not put it down and I read it in one day. I would definitely recommend if you have interest in a steamy greek mythology retelling.
